The
third annual day anniversary celebration of Nethrodaya,
an NGO for the visually challenged, was held on October
2, 2005 at the Chinnaswamy Auditorium.
The
function was well attention by about 400 odd visually challenged
people from all walks of life who live in and around Chennai.
According to C. Govindakrishnan, founder trustee, Nethrodaya,
“Our annual day is actually a festival for the visually challenged,
because on this day they are able to meet under one roof and
share their joy and sorrows. It is also a day of felicitation
for their achievements in various fields throughout the year.”
Govindakrishnan introduced a few achievers. “S. Subiah, who
has completed his MBA is one of the first few visually challenged
to do so. So also Balamurugan, Gold Medallist, M.Phil, Economics”,
Govindakrishnan pointed out.
A
documentary on the trials and achievements of Nethrodaya highlighted
the triumph of the human will. A.X.Alexander DGP, Tamilnadu,
released this documentary.
The
in-house resource center for the visually challenged girls
(the first of its kind in Tamilnadu) was inaugurated by
L.N.Raghavan, Secretary, Social Welfare, Government of Tamilnadu,
at the function.
Suchitra,
RJ of popular FM Channel, Radio Mirchi and ambassador for
Nethrodaya shared her sentiments on the occasion.
Special
guest Ms. Pushpam Apalla Naidu, Director, Gold Quest has promised
financial support for Nethrodaya’s recurring expenditure.
Dr.
Arjun Rajagopalan, Medical Director and trustee of Sundaram
Medical Foundation assured free medical support for the visually
challenged on a regular basis.
The
function was rounded off by a sumptuous dinner fro the visually
impaired, organized and funded by Balakrishnan, a food caterer.
