Nethrodaya is a Social Service Institution founded by a Visually Impaired in October 2002. It is approved by The Rehabilitation Council of India and recognised by Government of Tamil Nadu.Nethrodaya founded in 2002, is a social service institution & Blind Residential School founded by a visually challenged person to serve the visually impaired and physically challenged community.

In recognition of its outstanding services to the differently abled community of Tamilnadu, Nethrodaya was selected for the Award as the “ Best Social Service Institution 2012 “ by Government Of Tamilnadu.

Mr.C.Govindakrishnan our founder was selected and awarded as the “Best Social worker 2010 “ by Government of Tamilnadu in recognition of his outstanding services to the differently abled community of Tamilnadu by the Honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu Late Dr.K.Karunanidhi.
Audio Alert device for the Visually Impaired students of Nethrodaya was launched by the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. Edapadi Palanisamy. This translates to "Eye Day" in Tamil, aims to assist the Visually Impaired community by providing them with an easy-to-use device that converts visual information into audio cues.
This technology has the potential to enhance their independence and daily living experiences.
Nethrodaya's representation for enhancement of pension from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,500 for 4,39,315 differently abled persons was considered by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin.

Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru O. Paneer Selvam has issued a historic order to exempt the infrastructure, Development and amenities charges for Nethrodaya under Housing and Urban Development Department G.O (Ms) No 31 Dated 09.03.2018.
