Nethrodaya hosted the South Indian Singing Competition for the visually challenged on 24th September 2022. This competition saw a fierce battle of wits between the singers from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karna- taka, Pondicherry, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Pappa Vidhyakar, an Indian Humanitarian Aid Worker, and Mrs. Sarala, Dy. Director Differently Abled Department & Mr. G. Sriram, Managing Trustee Karma Corps. Hundreds of visually challenged singers from all five South Indian states participated and competed for the title of South Indian Singing Icon.
The renowned Music Composer Mr. G.V. Prakash gave away the Winners trophy and a cash award to Mr. Purushothaman from Tamil Nadu. Ms. Saleena from Kerala received the first runner-up up and Mr. T. Manikandan from Pondicherry received the second runner-up.
Playback singers Mr. M.L.R Karthikeyan, Mr. Pawan, and Mr Prasanna shared valuable musical inputs and their vast knowledge at this memorable event.
Nethrodaya conducted the South Indian Singing Competition for the visually challenged on 21 February 2015. Prominent celebrities from the film industry including Thiru. R. Krishnaraj, Thiru. S.N.Surender, Thiru. M.L.R. Karthikeyan, Ms.Priyadarshini, and Ms. Surmukhi judged the performance of the participants.
More than 200 visually challenged singers including those from neighboring states participated in the competition. Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare Ms. B. Valarmathi awarded the winning trophy and cash award of Rs.1 lakh to the winners. Ms.Bhagyamma from Karnataka was the winner of the contest.
The South Indian Singing Festival for the Visually Impaired was held on 27th and 28th February 2014 with singers hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu and the Union Territory of Pondicherry. Indian Film Music Composer Mr. D. Imman and playback Singers Priya Himesh and M. L. R. Karthikeyan were Guests of Honour. Playback Singer Krishnaraj and Celebrity S. N. Surendra performed the tough task of adjudicating the Winners
The State level singing competition exclusively for the visually impaired was held at Nethrodaya on 30th January 2013. Mr Krishnaraj, Mr Srinivas, Mrs. Pop Shalini, Mr MLR Karthikeyan and Mr Krishna Prabhakar the celebrity singers were the judges who selected the winners from more than 140 visually challenged singers from different schools and colleges across Tamilnadu and Kerala. Mr Raj Kannan, a 25-year-old visually impaired Tamil literature student from Coimbatore, won the Best Singer Award.
Mr. Srinivas desired that this event should be taken to a higher level at the South India level covering all the southern States. This unique and spectacular event was fully sponsored and supported by Scope International.
